Over the last years, the Peruvian agricultural sector has experienced a significant growth in terms of exports and impact on the country’s development.
Peru has 9 agricultural products ranked in the top 10 list of exports worldwide. In 2014, Peru occupied the 25th position as food supplier worldwide, according to the World Trade Organization – WTO in its article “International Trade Statistics 2015”. While in 2000 the exports of Peruvian agricultural products reached US$643 million, in 2015 it was more than US$ 5,000 million, at an annual average growth rate of 14.9% over the last 15 years.
Some of the fundamental reasons of such growth are the geographic characteristics and climate conditions of the country, which favors the development of the agricultural sector. Peru has 84 out of the 117 life zones globally recognized, and 11 natural ecosystems. Such characteristics enables Peru to offer an export supply for the whole year.
